If you love cinema you’re going to love Paris, Je T’Aime.
It is a series of love cinematic love poems to Paris, the legendary city of love.
There are 16 vignettes from 18 international filmmakers including Ethan and Joel Coen, Wes Craven, Richard LaGravnese, Gus Van Sant and Alfonso Cuaron.
Each was asked to tell a five of six minute love story set in their choice of Paris neighborhoods or famous streets.
It goes without saying that some are better than others but there are no real duds.
What they prove is that a confident filmmaker doesn’t need 120 minutes or a host of CGI artists to tell a compelling story.
The filmmakers have also lured some of the finest actors in the world to help them showcase their ideas of love in the city of love.
Wisely the film ends with Alexander Paynes’ heartwrenching vignette about a lonely American letter carrier (Margo Martindale) who enlivens her soul by watching others falling in love and loving.
Wow, it’s as if Margo had just watched Paris, Je T’Aime.
It works the same kind of magic on the viewer as Paris does on the letter carrier.
